Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team suffered a 3-2 overtime setback in the season opener at the University of New England on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bears are 0-1 on the season as the Nor'Easters improve to 2-0.
Game Highlights
- The Nor'Easters scored a pair of quick goals in the 11th and 13th minutes of the first quarter. Both tallies came on penalty corners.
- The first goal came with a back-and-forth passing sequence at the top of the circle before a shot and tip-in from in front of the goalie.
- UNE took the 2-0 lead after the corner insert went beyond the circle but was sent back in by Kennedy St. Pierre. St. Pierre found Laney LeBlanc on the top left side who swept the ball past Bowdoin's defense.
- Bowdoin found its first goal of the season five minutes into the second quarter. Emily Ferguson worked a spin move at the top of the circle and beat a defender to put the ball toward net. Mackay Bommer worked the ball behind the goalie to finish the play at the goal line.
- The Polar Bears scored on their fourth corner of the third quarter to even the game. The initial shot from the top went off the goalie's left kicker and rebounded out to Ferguson. Ferguson corralled the bouncing ball and sent it towards the right post for Olivia Cunningham to deflect in.
- UNE won the game in overtime, converting on a penalty corner.
