Women's Tennis Runs Into Amherst in NESCAC Quarterfinal Loss

AMHERST, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's tennis team couldn't rally in singles play and was eliminated from the NESCAC Tournament on Friday afternoon by Amherst, 5-1. The Polar Bears (9-9), ranked 22nd nationally, will hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when selections are announced on Monday.

Match Highlights
  • The Polar Bears got a point in doubles play as Hannah Buckhout/Caroline Stuhlfaut earned a convincing 8-4 decision at number three.
  • Bowdoin battled hard at number two doubles, but Cara Hung/Zoe Sun came up just short in an 8-7 (7-2) decision that gave Amherst a 2-1 lead heading to singles.
  • The Polar Bears took the first set in five of the singles matches as they attempted to mount a rally, but the Mammoths were able to stem the tide and win in straight-sets at number two and rally for three-set wins at number three and six to clinch the victory.
