Baseball Mounts Early Rally to Top Tufts On Sunday Afternoon

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College baseball team rallied from an early deficit to take a 7-3 win over Tufts on Sunday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Polar Bears move to 13-10 (2-2 NESCAC) while the Jumbos fall to 13-13 (4-5 NESCAC). 
 
Game Highlights
  • Tufts scored three runs in the second inning to take an early edge over the Polar Bears, but Bowdoin responded with four runs in the third. 
  • Kevin Murray sparked the rally with a two-run single and Lucas Tsai and Ben McKenzie followed with run-scoring hits of their own to give Bowdoin a 4-3 edge.
  • The game remained a one-run contest until the sixth when Will Bordes added a bases loaded walk to make it 5-3 and Reuben Siegel delivered a big two-run, two out single to give the Polar Bears a 7-3 cushion.
  • Alex Saavedra took care of the rest for Bowdoin, entering the game in relief and tossing 5.1 sparkling innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

  • Ben McKenzie went 2-3 with a walk and run scored for Bowdoin. 
  • Liam Foley scored two runs while Will Bordes reached base twice on walks. 
  • Saavedra earned the win , retiring 16 of the 18 batters he faced.
