Baseball Returns to Win Column With Fitchburg Sweep

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Bowdoin baseball team improved to 4-3 on the season after a doubleheader sweep of Fitchburg State on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears won a tight 6-5 decision in game one and unleashed the bats in game two for a 15-4 victory over the Falcons (4-6).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Liam Foley tagged an RBI single to center and Luka Tsai was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • Foley singled to center again in the second for another RBI.
  • Fitchburg's Matt Kelly plated runs for the Falcons in the third and fifth innings.
  • The Polar Bears extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Luke Chessie doubled to right to drive in two runs and Tsai sent a sacrifice fly to left.
  • Kelly accounted for all the Fitchburg offense with a three-run homer to right in the seventh inning.
  • Rudy Gately went 4.2 innings with three hits allowed and four strikeouts.
  • Jason Bogdanos allowed two hits in the final 2.1 innings of work.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Kevin Murray got the Polar Bears started with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the first. Chris Dirks added another RBI single to plate Murray.
  • Fitchburg found one rebuttal run in the bottom half of the inning off a double.
  • Extra base hits by Aidan Carey and Henry Bibeau drove in three runs. Reuben Siegel had a sacrifice fly RBI to left that drove in Bibeau.
  • Bibeau and Christian O'Brien each recorded an RBI in the fourth, while Siegel plated two.
  • The Falcons found another run in the fourth, but Bowdoin plated five runners to answer in the top of the fifth.
  • Mike Moynihan, Grant Collins, and Siegel all recorded an RBI. Chris Aufiero tagged a two-run single to center.
  • Two bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the seventh accounted for Fitchburg's final two runs.
  • Franco Ruocco earned the win with six innings of work and five hits allowed. The first-year struck out seven batters. Baker Olin pitched the final inning.
  • Chris Dirks went 4-for-4 at the plate.
