BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team handed Amherst its worst loss in 18 years, clinching the top seed in the NESCAC Tournament with a dominant 67-33 Senior Day victory on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (22-2, 9-1) clinch the top seed in the NESCAC for the first time since 2019 and will host Tufts in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, February 17. Game time will be announced this week.
Game Highlights
- Carly Davey had six points in the opening quarter to spark an early Bowdoin run as the Polar Bears led by double-digits, 18-7, following one period of play.
- The Mammoths kept it close in the second quarter, cutting the lead to seven points late in the period before a last-second three-pointer from Sydney Jones gave the Polar Bears a 31-21 cushion at the break.
- The third quarter was all Jones, as she exploded for 16 straight points, capped by a baseline three-pointer that pushed Bowdoin's lead to 24 points, 47-23, just 4:30 into the second half.
- Jones singlehandedly outscored Amherst 20-4 in the period and, until late in the fourth quarter, held a personal lead over Amherst as she totaled a career-high 32 points in the win.
- Bowdoin cruised to the win, leading by as many as 38 points in the fourth quarter on their way to the win.

- Jones concluded a phenomenal regular season with a career-high 32 points, with 24 coming in the second half, ending at 12-22 shooting with ten rebounds and five steals.
- She proved to be all the offense Bowdoin would need as Carly Davey pitched in eight points with six boards, and Callie Godfrey added eight points with five rebounds.
- Jess Giorgio's second career three-pointer helped give her seven points on the afternoon to go with five rebounds.
- The Polar Bears shot 42% from the field but went 9-18 from long distance, and held Amherst to a season-low 33 points on 17% shooting.
- Bowdoin owned a 50-40 edge on the glass and scored 20 points off turnovers.
- The 34-point loss was the largest margin of defeat for Amherst since a 42-point loss to Bates on February 10, 2006.
