Miscues Doom Football in CBB Title Loss to Colby

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Colby College football team reclaimed the CBB Championship with a 34-10 victory over Bowdoin on Saturday night at Whittier Field. The Mules finish the season with a record of 4-5 while Bowdoin falls to 3-6.
 
Game Highlights
  • The story of the game was turnovers, as the Polar Bears committed a season-high seven, leading directly to 20 Colby points.
  • The Mules jumped ahead with 17 points in the first 8:32 of the contest, before Bowdoin responded with a seven play, 75-yard drive, scoring on a one-yard TD plunge by Robbie Long.
  • Bowdoin's Caden Perry deposited a 22-yard field goal to cut the lead to 17-10 early in the second quarter.
  • After a Colby field goal made it 20-10 on the next possession, the key exchange of the contest came in the final moments before halftime.
  • With Bowdoin facing a third-and-four inside their own 10 with less than two minutes to play in the second quarter, Robbie Long dropped back to pass and his throw was deflected up and into the arms of Colby's Dennis Dougherty, who fell into the end zone to make it 27-10 at the break.
  • Colby added a fourth quarter touchdown to seal the win.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin lost four interceptions and three fumbles on the day and turned the ball over on a failed punt in the opening half. The Mules also posted seven sacks on the day.
  • Robbie Long threw for 166 yards and rushed for another 32 for the Polar Bears, while Ty Connolly caught five passes for 70 yards.
  • Gordon Gozdeck had a team-high 12 tackles and a forced fumble for the Polar Bear defense.
  • Koy Price made eight tackles, including 2.5 for a loss with three pass deflections.
  • The CBB championship was the 18th for Colby. Bowdoin now owns a 72-54-9 lead in the all time series.
