SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Bowdoin College men's soccer team scored three times in an eight-minute span in the second half to dismiss Hardin-Simmons, 3-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Friday night at Trinity (Texas) University. The Polar Bears (8-5-5) advance to face Trinity (Texas) in a second round match on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. (ET). Hardin-Simmons finishes its season with a mark of 12-6-2.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin controlled the early going, with their first coming on a give-and-go between Mateo Pacelli and Paul Surkov 15 minutes in. Surkov came open at the top of the box, but curled a hard shot from 15 yards out, just wide of the right post.
- Hardin Simmons responded with its best chance of the half, off a corner kick, but an open look by Daniel Villagomez sailed high and wide of the cage.
- With under 13 minutes to go in the half, Bowdoin appeared poised to get on the board, but an apparent Hardin Simmons handball in the box went uncalled, and an ensuing goaltender save that looked to be across the goal line was ruled not a goal as the contest remained scoreless.
- Moments later, Tyler Huck came loose behind the Cowboys defense but chipped a chance high of the crossbar as the game entered halftime deadlocked at zero.
- The game tightened up in the second half, as the physicality of the match increased. Bowdoin withstood an early challenge by the Cowboys before taking over the contest.
- Bowdoin broke through with a dynamic shot from Tyler Huck with just over 19 minutes remaining. Huck took control of the ball at the top of the box and cut loose on a low rocket that cut to the right into the back of the net.
- The Polar Bears continued to pressure after Huck's goal and cashed in again at the 12 minute mark when a great feed from the wing by Carlton Steinberg found the foot of Arthur Dos Santos, who banged home the pass to make it 2-0.
- Bowdoin put the game away just moments after, as Felipe Rueda Duran tipped a centering feed to Kamar Burris-Khan, who knocked it home just 63 seconds later.

- Bowdoin controlled the pace of play throughout the evening, holding a 22-9 edge in shots.

- The Polar Bears also owned an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
- The three goals was the most in a game for Bowdoin since their October 22 win over the University of Southern Maine (7-0).
