Women's Hockey Surrenders Last Second Goal in Loss to Amherst

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit but fell 3-2 on a last-minute goal to Amherst.
 
The Polar Bears drop to 8-10-2 (3-7-2 NESCAC). The Mammoths continue to run with a 14-2-2 (8-2-2 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Amherst went ahead 1-0 early in the first, Rylee Glennon controlled the puck along the back boards and passed to Anna Baxter. Baxter passed up to Alyssa Xu who skated across the goal face from left to right and tucked a shot inside the post.
  • With 4:24 remaining in the second, Xu set up Baxter for a slapshot in front of the net that missed wide right. The puck rebounded off the boards and back to Glennon who put a shot away at the near post.
  • Bowdoin cut the lead in half with a power play goal with under two minutes remaining in the frame. Anyi Sun carried the puck the length of the ice and left a backhanded pass for Elena DiMagno high in the slot. DiMagno skated on and fired a shot past Natalie Scott.
  • Sun set up Bowdoin's equalizer, and second power play tally of the game, midway through the third. Sun fed Jane McCarter on the right point who fired a shot on net. The rebound kicked left to DiMagno who had an open look.
  • Amherst came away with the win, scoring in the final 41 seconds of regulation. Maeve Reynolds passed up the left boards to Gretchen Dann. Dann shot from the point and Xu tipped the pack past Sarah Peterson.

  • Bowdoin went 2-for-3 on the power play.
  • Amherst was 0-for-3 on the power play.
  • Peterson stopped 22 shots.
