Women's Basketball Stifles Camels To Stay Perfect in NESCAC Play

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team used a suffocating defensive effort to dispatch Connecticut College on Friday evening at Morrell Gymnasium, 57-42.
 
The 12th-ranked Polar Bears improve to 19-1 (6-0 NESCAC) while the Camles fall to 5-13 (0-5 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Following a tightly-played first quarter, Bowdoin took command in the second period.
  • Up 20-18 midway through the frame, Bowdoin used a 16-2 run to end the half, getting a last-second jumper from Sydney Jones, to take a 36-20 lead at intermission.
  • The Polar Bears cruised from there, extending their lead to as many as 23 points in the second half on their way to the win.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin held Connecticut College to 30% shooting in the game, including 2-18 from three-point range.
  • Maria Belardi (15) and Jess Giorgio (13) both matched their career highs in points in the win for the Polar Bears, who had eight different players score at least three points.
  • Sydney Jones ended with seven rebounds and three assists as Bowdoin assisted on 17 of their 22 made baskets.
