SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Bowdoin College volleyball team opened play at the Garnet Invitational on Friday evening, defeating the host Swarthmore in a convincing 3-0 decision. The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 with the win while the Garnet fall to 3-1 this year.
 
Match Highlights

• Bowdoin took the win by set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-21.
• Following an early Swarthmore lead, the Polar Bears ahead with five-straight points to take a 10-7 advantage. The Garnet shrunk their deficit to two points until Bowdoin lengthened their lead with a 4-0 run and led the rest of the way as they took the opening set.
• In the pivotal second set, Bowdoin held a slim 16-14 edge before a crucial 5-1 run that included aces from Ella Haugen and Ashley Jazbec, gave Bowdoin an insurmountable 21-15 edge en route to a 2-0 overall lead.
• Bowdoin never trailed in the third set, sprinting to an early 7-2 lead. The Polar Bears led by as many as nine points (18-9) before a late surge closed the gap to 21-19. Kills by Haley Campau and Corinne Lamond steadied Bowdoin and Skye LaMendola's 17^th kill of the night clinched it for Bowdoin, 25-21.

By The Numbers

• For the second straight match first-year Skye LaMendola paced the Polar Bears in kills, racking up 17 to go with 13 digs.
• Ella Haugen collected 36 assists, three aces and 11 digs while Maya White led Bowdoin with 13 digs.
• Ashley Jazbec (eight kills) and Corinne Lamond (seven Kills) also pitched in offensively while Haley Campau led Bowdoin with three blocks.
