Field Hockey Opens 2023 Season with 6-0 Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team burst into the 2023 season with a 6-0 victory over the visiting University of New England Nor'Easters on Tuesday evening.
 
The Polar Bears begin the season with a 1-0 record. The Nor'Easters are still in search of their first win (0-2).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin broke through just under ten minutes into the game. Georgie Coezter blasted a drive from the top of the circle on a penalty corner.
  • Coetzer drove another ball on net with a minute remaining in the quarter and set up Maddie Mrva for a tip and first collegiate goal.
  • Just 1:45 into the second quarter, Faith Jennings buried a penalty stroke to make it 3-0.
  • Coetzer set up another goal on a penalty corner with five minutes remaining in the half. The ball skirted towards net and Caroline Higgins finished off the play with a tipped deflection on the left side.
  • Higgins had a goal of her own midway through the third quarter. Higgins crashed in on cage and finished off a loose ball off the goalie's pads.
  • Bowdoin's final goal came off the stick of Jennings. Maya Malenfant fired a shot from just outside the top of the arc and Jennings tipped it in for the team's sixth tally.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin took 20 shots and put 12 on net. The Nor'Easters put a pair of shots on cage with five total attempts.
  • Bowdoin took a 14-6 edge in penalty corners.
  • Higgins and Jennings both tallied a pair of goals and one helper.
  • Julia Arsenault made a pair of saves in 55 minutes of play. Lauren O'Donald played the final minutes.
  • Dawn DeWeese-Moss started the game for UNE and made four stops. Savanna Harvey made a pair of saves in the final quarter.
