Women's Tennis Falls to Amherst in NESCAC Quarterfinals

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin College women's tennis team fell to Amherst, 5-1, in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament at Middlebury College on Friday afternoon. The 24th-ranked and sixth-seeded Polar Bears drop to 5-11 on the season with the loss while the eighth-ranked and third-seeded Mammoths advance to the conference semifinals and improve to 12-3.

Match Highlights
  • The Polar Bears were within a whisker of taking a 2-1 lead in doubles play, but a pair of late rallies by Amherst put Bowdoin in a 3-0 hole they couldn't recover from.
  • Tied at 6-6 at number one doubles, Amherst's duo rallied to win the final two games and take an 8-6 win over Bowdoin's Jamilah Karah/Cara Hung. At number three doubles Julia DeLuca/Elizabeth Yu fell in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-2).
  • Cara Hung earned a point for Bowdoin with a singles match win at #4 (6-3, 6-2) but that's all the Polar Bears could muster as Amherst claimed a pair of straight-set singles wins to clinch the decision.
