BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team couldn't rally in the second half of a 19-15 loss to top-ranked Tufts University on Wednesday night at Whittier Field. The loss drops the ninth-ranked Polar Bears to 11-4 (6-4 NESCAC) and breaks a 17-game home winning streak for Bowdoin, who suffer their first loss at Whittier Field since February of 2020.
The Polar Bears fall to fifth place in the NESCAC standings and will travel to play at fourth-seeded Amherst in the conference quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
Game Highlights
- After the teams traded goals to open the contest, a 4-1 spurt by the Jumbos to close the first quarter and open the second created some space for the visitors.
- Bowdoin was playing catch-up after that, but remained within two goals, 7-5, following a Will Byrne goal midway through the second frame.
- Tufts finished the opening half with a flurry, scoring six times in the final 8:58 to open up a 13-7 lead at the break.
- Bowdoin chipped away at the lead in the second half, including a 6-3 advantage in the third quarter, but could get no closer than three goals at any point as Tufts hung on to win.
