BRUNSWICK, Maine – The top-ranked Middlebury College women's lacrosse team held off a second half rally from 16^th-ranked Bowdoin to take a 15-9 win on Wednesday night at Ryan Field. The Panthers move to 2-0 this season while the Polar Bears fall to 1-1.
 
Game Highlights

• Middlebury jumped to a 5-2 lead after one quarter thanks to two goals apiece from Jane Early and Hope Shue.
• The Polar Bears scored two of the first three goals in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 6-4 before the Panthers scored twice in the final 1:17 before halftime to take an 8-4 edge at intermission.
• After Middlebury extended their lead to 9-4 in the opening moments of the third quarter, Bowdoin got back into the contest with a 4-1 surge, cutting the lead to 10-8.
• Bowdoin had a pair of chances to cut into the lead further, but Middlebury's defense held the Polar Bears to just two goals over the final 20:39 of the contest and slowly pulled away.

By The Numbers

• Sophia Sudano scored three goals and two assists to lead Bowdoin in scoring.
• Fiona Bundy and Lauren Burke had two goals apiece.
• Maddie Corsetti had three ground balls and a caused turnovers while Izzy Cisneros (one save) and Sophie Brett (ten saves) split time in goal for the Polar Bears.
• Bowdoin won 15 of 28 draws but were victimized by 17 turnovers in the loss.
