Women's Tennis Earns First Win of the Season at Hamilton

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's tennis team split a pair of matches on their opening weekend of play for their spring campaign last weekend. The 17th-ranked Polar Bears bounced back from a Saturday loss at seventh-ranked Amherst to dispatch Hamilton on Sunday and stand at 1-1 this year.  
 
Weekend Highlights
  • Bowdoin opened its year with a 5-4 setback at Amherst Saturday before rebounding to take a 7-2 triumph at Hamilton on Sunday.
  • The Polar Bears rallied from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play but couldn't complete the comeback against the Mammoths.
  • Bowdoin won four of six singles matches, including straight-set wins by Jamilah Karah and Candice Ballarin. Julia DeLuca and Cara Hung claimed hard-fought, three-set wins in singles.
  • Against Hamilton, Bowdoin claimed two of three doubles matches and cruised in singles action to take their first win of the spring.
  • Karah/Hung won at number one doubles (8-7) while Elizabeth Yu/Hannah Buckhout took a victory at number three (8-2).
  • Karah, DeLuca and Ballarin claimed straight-set wins in the opening wave of singles action to clinch the win for Bowdoin. Hung (8-7) and Buckhout (8-0) earned wins in shortened singles play to close out the Polar Bear win.

  • Bowdoin will return to action next week in California as they begin their spring break trip with a match against Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego on Tuesday, March 14.
