Softball Splits Penultimate Game Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team split a Monday morning doubleheader against Manchester University and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
 
The Polar Bears are 6-6 following the 11-6 win over Manchester (3-2), and 6-5 setback against Wisconsin-Whitewater (4-4).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Lilly Armstrong ripped a triple down the right field line that plated a pair of runs.
  • Manchester went ahead 3-2 in the top of the third, but Bowdoin answered in the bottom of the inning. Kiera Dent singled to right and drove in both Chloe Garcia and Katryna Dukehart.
  • The Polar Bears jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the following inning. Garcia hit an RBI single and Shea Sullivan added a two-run single.
  • Manchester drew within one run in the sixth, only to see Bowdoin score four unanswered runs in the bottom. Sydney Lang and Kyla Gary each had an RBI. Dent drove in two more.
  • Garcia was 3-for-3 at the plate and Dent went 3-for-4 with four RBI.
  • Anna Halliday earned the win with six hits allowed and four strikeouts. Maddie Currant had the save with 1.1 innings of work and two hits allowed.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Wisconsin-Whitewater took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Bowdoin took control of the game in the third with five runs. Armstrong tagged an RBI double and Lang had an RBI single. Angelina Mayers continued her hot streak at the plate with a three-run homer to left center.
  • Three runs in the fourth put Wisconsin-Whitewater ahead 6-5 and the Polar Bears could not find an equalizing run.
  • Armstrong went 3-for-4. Both Dukehart and Garcia were 2-for-4.
  • Ava Biasotti allowed four hits and one earned run, while recording five strikeouts.
  • Current pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed two hits with one strikeout.
