Baseball Picks Up Series Sweep Over Lawrence University

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Bowdoin baseball team swept Lawrence University in a pair of Tuesday afternoon games.
 
The Polar Bears (6-3) opened the series with a 15-8 win, followed by a 6-5 victory. Lawrence falls to 4-6.
 
Game One Highlights
  • The Polar Bears went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first, but a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning put Lawrence ahead.
  • Bowdoin exploded for ten runs in the second. The inning was capped with two-run homers from both Liam Foley and Nick Merrill.
  • Lawrence added two more runs in the second, making it 11-4.
  • Ben McKenzie tagged the team's third home run of the day in the third inning.
  • Gabe Peckler tripled in the fourth, plating Foley, and eventually scored on a passed ball.
  • Lawrence added runs in the fourth and fifth, but Bowdoin scored its 15th and final run in the sixth.
  • The remaining two innings weren't enough for Lawrence to rally, and Bowdoin came away with the 15-8 win.
  • McKenzie was 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI and a homer.
  • Foley went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI.
  • CJ Brito-Trinidad tagged a double en route to a three RBI day and 2-for-4 at the plate game.
  • Jack Mullen pitched six innings with four strikeouts and seven earned runs. Jackson Melendy pitched the final inning, allowing one hit, one run, and one strikeout.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • The teams combined for 11 runs in the first two innings.
  • Lawrence went ahead in the top of the first on a passed ball.
  • Bowdoin answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on pitching mistakes to score the first two. Peckler added a two-run double to right.
  • An bases-loaded error in right allowed Lawrence to clear the bases in the second and go ahead 5-4.
  • Two more pitching miscues allowed the Polar Bears to take the lead in the second and hold on through the final five innings.
  • Peckler was the only Polar Bear with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Peckler had a double and Foley tagged a triple.
  • Jake Sullivan started the game and pitched three innings, allowing three hits and one earned run. Sullivan struck out four and walked three.
  • Connor Cassady pitched two innings and fanned a pair.
  • Jack Olcott pitched the final two innings and did not allow a hit.
