Third Inning Woes Sink Baseball Against Springfield

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Bowdoin baseball team fell 13-9 to Springfield College after allowing an eight-run third.
 
The Polar Bears (3-2) have played the Pride (4-4-1) three times since the year 2000 and have yet to earn a win over Springfield.
 
Game Highlights
  • Springfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Bowdoin tied it 3-3 in the bottom of the inning. Kevin Murray and Luke Chessie both recorded RBI singles. Murray scored on a Lukas Tsai groundout.
  • Bowdoin plated four more runs in the second with RBI from Murray, Chessie, and Tsai. Ben McKenzie accounted for the inning's first run, scoring on a passed ball.
  • Springfield powered through the third inning with multiple hits to generate eight runs. McKenzie hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to tally another for Bowdoin.
  • The Pride recorded solo homers in the fifth and eighth innings to put the game away.
 
By the Numbers
  • McKenzie went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. Murray and Chessie were the only other Polar Bears with multiple hits. Murray led the team with three RBI.
  • Bowdoin put five pitchers on the mound. The quintet allowed 19 hits and 12 earned runs. They struck out five and walked five.
