Mayers Hits Walk-Off Homerun as Polar Bears Sweep Day Two in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team picked up a pair of Tuesday afternoon wins on Tuesday with victories over Western New England and Macalester.
 
Angelina Mayers hit a walk-off homerun to lift the Polar Bears (3-1) to a 6-5 win over Western New England (5-2). Bowdoin capped the evening with a 7-3 win over Macalester (6-6).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Western New England went ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, but Katryna Dukehart's chop to short allowed Lilly Armstrong to score and cut the deficit to one.
  • The Golden Bears added two RBI singles in the second to stretch the lead to 4-1.
  • Dukehart tagged a two-run blast in the bottom of the third to pull Bowdoin back within one.
  • Chloe Garcia tied the game with an RBI triple to right in the fifth. Garcia later came home off the bat of Anna Halliday.
  • Trailing for the first time all game, the Golden Bears found an equalizer in the top half of the next inning.
  • Tied 5-5 in the bottom half of the seventh, Mayers hit a lead-off walk-off homer to right field.
  • Maddie Current pitched the entire game, allowing nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
  • Halliday went 2-for-3 at the plate and Mayers was 2-for-4.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Mayers started game two just as game one ended, with a homerun to right field.
  • Macalester plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the second inning and held a 2-1 lead until the fourth.
  • Ella Jones tagged an RBI single up the middle to plate Shea Sullivan and tie the game,
  • Bowdoin put the game out of reach in the fifth with a five run effort. Garcia started the scoring with an RBI single through the right side. Sullivan added an RBI groundout. Jones capped the inning with a three-run homer to left.
  • Macalester managed to score one more run in the fifth, but couldn't come any closer than the 7-3 final.
  • Ava Biasotti pitched five innings and allowed four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
  • Abby Allen and Halliday each pitched one inning and allowed a hit apiece.
  • Mayers, Garcia, and Jones all went 2-for-4.
