Volleyball Dominates Final Two Sets in NESCAC First Round Win at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Bowdoin College volleyball team pulled away in the final two sets for a 3-1 win over Hamilton in the First Round of the NESCAC Tournament on Friday night. The Polar Bears (12-9) advance to play at Colby in quarterfinals on Sunday while the Continentals end their season with a record of 10-10.
 
Match Highlights
  • The Polar Bears won by set scores of 25-17, 15-25, 25-19, 25-11.
  • After splitting the first two sets, Bowdoin opened a 4-1 lead in the third set and never trailed. Hamilton remained as close as 20-16 late in the set, but Bowdoin rolled off a 4-1 run and capped the set on a kill from Mary John to take a 2-1 overall lead.
  • Bowdoin dominated the Continentals in the clinching fourth set, opening up a 7-2 lead, thanks in great part to a service run by Lauren Lange. The Polar Bears put the match on ice with a huge 13-2 run later in the set en route to the win.
By The Numbers
  • Skye LaMendola was outstanding, putting away a match-high 19 kills to go with nine digs and two service aces.
  • Lauren Lange had 11 kills and hit at 52.6% for the match with three aces and two blocks while Olivia Deane and Lily Janas had nine kills apiece.
  • Ella Haugen notched 48 assists and nine digs with three timely kills while Maya White led Bowdoin with 13 digs and Anna Yeh posted 12.
