LaMendola and Haugen Honored in AVCA Postseason Awards

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College volleyball first-year Skye LaMendola (Farmers Branch, Texas) and senior Ella Haugen (Edina, Minn.) have been recognized in postseason honors announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association this week.

LaMendola was named the Region 1 Freshman of the Year and both Haugen and LaMendola were named First Team All-Region. Additionally, both players were recognized as Honorable Mention All-Americans.

LaMendola burst onto the scene with one of the best first-year campaigns in Bowdoin history, racking up 4.08 kills/set and 2.73 digs/set this fall. Her 351 kills were tops in the conference by a wide margin and rank fourth in a single-season all-time at Bowdoin. She was named First Team All-NESCAC and became the third Polar Bear to be named NESCAC Rookie of the Year, joining Caroline Flaharty (2016) and Kate Kiser (2017).

Haugen wraps up a stellar career at Bowdoin by ranking first in the league in assists (9.75/set) with 809 on the season. She also stood fourth in the NESCAC with 36 aces on the year. Her 2,895 career assists place her fourth all-time at Bowdoin and was named Second Team All-Conference this fall.

The Polar Bears made a late run, becoming the lowest-ever seed to reach the NESCAC semifinals, and ended the year with a 13-10 record.
