Volleyball Falls to Wesleyan in NESCAC Semifinals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin College volleyball team saw its hopes of a NESCAC title come to an end in a 3-1 loss to top-seeded Wesleyan on Friday evening. The Polar Bears conclude their season with a record of 13-10 while the Cardinals (21-1) advance to the conference championship match tomorrow.
 
Match Highlights
  • The Cardinals took the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-22 as they claimed an early edge.
  • Bowdoin rebounded with a strong third set, rebounding from an early 8-2 deficit to tie the set at 13-13. The teams traded runs and Wesleyan held a 23-21 lead late before Bowdoin rolled off a 6-1 run, capped by kills from Lauren Lange and Lily Janas to take a 26-24 win.
  • The Polar Bears appeared poised to force a decisive fifth set when they opened an 18-12 lead in the fourth. Wesleyan bounced back, rolling off a 9-2 run to take the lead. The Cardinals then finished off Bowdoin with a 4-1 run to clinch the match with a 25-22 win.
By The Numbers
  • Skye LaMendola led all players with 18 kills while Lily Janas pitched in nine and Mina Mittler had seven.
  • Ella Haugen had 39 assists, 12 digs, and four aces while Maya White recorded 16 digs.
  • Bowdoin held in against the top-seeded Cardinals, but were done in by 25 attack errors and eight service errors in the loss.
