Men's Soccer Puts Up Five Goals in Midweek Conference Win at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin men's soccer team surrendered an earl goal but exploded for five unanswered goals in a 5-1 win at Colby on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-1-4 (4-1-3 NESCAC). The Mules are 4-6-2 (1-6-2 NESCAC). The five goal offensive output was the most for Bowdoin against Colby since 1976. The teams have played a string of one goal differential games dating back to 2014.

Game Highlights
  • The Mules broke through in the 9th minute. Mario Simoes controlled the ball on the left wing and fed Eduardo Casanova for a goal to the right upper 90.
  • Bowdoin responded a minute later to tie the game. Carlton Steinberg headed the ball up from the goal's doorstep and Tyler Huck banged in a shot from six yards out.
  • The Polar Bears would never trail again as Felipe Rueda Duran put Bowdoin ahead in the 12th minute. The sophomore raced through the midfield and past defenders before taking a shot from the top right corner of the box and putting on the ground across to the far side.
  • Bowdoin kept going with a 3-1 lead in the 32nd minute. Paul Surkov sprinted down the left wing, in a foot race with a defender, and earned space near the end line. Surkov turned and sent a cross to the center where Everett Horch was running through for a one-touch to the right post.
  • Jack Banks scored his first collegiate goal in the 65th minute, making it 4-1.
  • Mateo Pacelli capped the game with another goal four minutes later.
