Women's Hoops Rolls to Non-Conference Win Over Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team held the University of Southern Maine scoreless in the second quarter en route to a 76-39 rout on Tuesday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 11-3 on the season while the Huskies fall to 4-8.
 
Game Highlights
  • Holding a slim 13-11 lead after the first ten minutes of play, Bowdoin clamped down defensively in the second quarter, forcing ten turnovers and holding USM to a 0-8 effort from the field.
  • The Polar Bears knocked down four three pointers in the frame, and outscored the hosts 18-0 to take a commanding 31-11 into the break.
  • Bowdoin put on the finishing touches in an explosive 27-point third quarter, shooting 62% and getting nine points from Emily Collins to put the contest out of reach.

  • Thirteen different Polar Bears scored in a balanced offensive attack for Bowdoin, as the squad shot 42% from the field while holding USM to 33%.
  • Emily Collins finished with a team-high 14 points on 6-6 shooting while Shayla Eubanks pitched in 11 points and five boards, including three three-pointers.
  • Bowdoin forced 21 turnovers, scoring 27 points off USM errors and added 21 second chance points.
  • The Polar Bears have won nine straight against their neighbors from Gorham dating back to 2013, with the Huskies' 39 points matching the lowest point total allowed by Bowdoin in the rivalry between the squads dating back to 1974.
