AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College baseball team swept Bowdoin on Saturday in the best-of-three NESCAC Quarterfinal series at Pickard Field to advance to next weekend's NESCAC Championship at Trinity.
The Mammoths claimed game one, 17-6, before taking the nightcap, 9-2, to improve to 16-16-1. Bowdoin ends its year with a record of 16-19.
Game One Highlights
- Amherst jumped on top early, scoring five runs in the first two frames, and then got four runs in the fifth to push their lead to 9-0 on home runs from Daniel Qin and Rob McIntyre.
- Despite the odds, Bowdoin rallied, plating five runs in the bottom of the inning with the big blast coming via a grand slam from Nick Merrill.
- A sacrifice fly from CJ Brito-Trinidad trimmed Amherst's lead to 9-6 in the sixth, but the Mammoths rebounded to score eight runs over the final three innings to put the contest out of reach.
- Gavin Cann went 2-3 for Bowdoin in the loss while Amherst's Chris Murphy went 4-6 with three runs and three RBI.
- Nick Giattino (5-3) got the win with 5.1 innings for Amherst, scattering seven hits and allowing six earned runs. Jack Mullen (6-2) took the loss for Bowdoin, permitting seven earned runs over five frames.
Game Two Highlights

- Bobby Pearl got Bowdoin on the scoreboard with a two-run blast to dead center in the bottom of the second inning, cutting the lead to 3-2.
- But that is all that Amherst's Jacob Ribitzki (5-2) would allow, as the Mammoth starter went the distance, allowing just two earned runs in a complete game win while striking out seven.
- Amherst scored twice in the third and three more in the fifth to chase Bowdoin starter Jason Bogdanos (5-3) and pull away for the win.
- Rob McIntyre went 4-6 with two runs scored for Amherst while Bobby Pearl and Nick Merrill had two hits each for Bowdoin.
