Softball Drops 6-4 to Amherst in NESCAC Tournament

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin softball team saw its season come to an end in a 6-4 loss to Amherst in the first round of the NESCAC tournament.
 
The Polar Bears conclude the season with a 14-18 record. The top Mammoths (22-7) were the top seed in the NESCAC West standings.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin struck first as Caroline Sablone had an RBI groundout to second that plated Lilly Armstrong.
  • Amherst scored two runs in the second and fourth innings with a single run in the third to make it 5-1.
  • Bowdoin made a run in the sixth inning to cut the score to 5-4. Angelina Mayers doubled to left center and drove in Kasey Cunningham. Katryna Dukehart added an RBI single through the left side and Sablone had another RBI groundout.
  • The Mammoths capped the game with a final run in the bottom half of the sixth.
 
By the Numbers
  • Armstrong was the lone Bowdoin batter with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
  • Sablone led the team with a pair of RBI.
  • Anna Halliday pitched the entire game and surrendered 11 hits and five earned runs.
