Women's Lacrosse Falls in Regular Season Finale to Tufts

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Tufts' Caroline Conaghan scored five goals in the fourth quarter to lift the Jumbos women's lacrosse team to an 11-10 comeback win over Bowdoin in both team's regular season finales on Wednesday night at Ryan Field. The 16th-ranked Polar Bears finish at 9-6 (4-6 NESCAC) and will head to Colby for a NESCAC quarterfinal game on Saturday. Ninth-ranked Tufts improves to 12-3 (7-3 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • In challenging windy, rainy conditions, the teams battled throughout a closely-fought contest with neither team taking more than a two-goal lead at any point.
  • Down 4-2 midway through the second quarter, Bowdoin got a pair of late goals from Annabelle Gersch to deadlock the score at 4-4 at intermission.
  • Bowdoin outscored Tufts 4-2 in the third quarter, spurred on by two more goals from Gersch, and got a goal from Fiona Bundy one second before the end of the period to take their biggest lead of the contest, 8-6, heading to the fourth.
  • Caroline Conaghan took over from there for Tufts, scoring four goals in a span of 7:35 to reclaim the lead, 10-8, with 7:25 to go.
  • Bowdoin responded with scores from Fiona Bundy and Sophia Schaefer in a span of 20 seconds later in the frame, to tie the game again at 10-10 with 5:08 remaining.
  • After the teams traded possessions, Conaghan put it away for Tufts, scoring with 2:53 remaining that proved to be the game-winner.
