Baseball Begins 2022 Season With Two Game Sweep at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Bowdoin baseball team returned to action after a two year hiatus and began the season with a two game sweep of Hamilton in non-conference action.
 
The Polar Bears begin the season at 2-0 with a 5-2 win in game one and 4-1 win in game two. The Continentals are 0-2 to begin the year.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Ben McKenzie hit a leadoff double to right during the first at-bat of the season and quickly came home to score off a homer down the right field line by Stephen Simoes.
  • The Continentals evened the game in the bottom of the second as a player stole home and Jackson Johns hit an RBI single.
  • The rest of the offense came from Bowdoin. Richie McNamara hit a sacrifice fly to left in the fourth, plating Keenan Murray.
  • In the sixth, Gavin Cann hit a two-run homer to left.
  • Jack Mullen earned the win with six innings of work and five hits allowed. Mullen struck out three batters and walked one.
  • Jack Olcott had the save, allowing one hits with a pair of K's to close out the game.
  • McKenzie went 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin again got on the board in the first inning. Luke Chessie grounded out to second but drove in McKenzie.
  • Both Simoes and Chessie tagged RBI doubles in the third inning to make it 3-0.
  • CJ Brito-Trinidad recorded his first RBI of the season off a single to left in the seventh.
  • Hamilton spoiled the shutout with a run-producing double to center during the team's last at-bats.
  • Jason Bogdanos went the distance with a complete game on the mound. Bogdanos allowed four hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

  • The Polar Bears return to action during spring break in Florida with a doubleheader against Dickinson on March 13.
