BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team used a big second half run to pull away from Bowdoin in an 11-6 win on Saturday at Ryan Field. The Cardinals, ranked 12
th in the latest Division III poll, improve to 6-1 (2-1 NESCAC) while the 17
th-ranked Polar Bears fall to 5-3 (1-3 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- A low-scoring first half saw the defenses dominate as both teams struggled to get on the board.
- The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead early, but three unanswered goals by Bowdoin over a span of ten minutes gave the hosts a 3-2 edge.
- A Kendall Mittleman goal late in the second quarter deadlocked the game at 3-3 at halftime.
- Bowdoin came out firing in the third quarter, getting goals from Colleen McAloon and Emelia Krakora just 1:13 apart to take a 5-3 advantage.
- Wesleyan clamped down from there, holding Bowdoin to just one goal over the final 27:22 of the game while rolling off seven straight goals.
- By the time the run ended on Gil Horst goal with 5:40 remaining, the Cardinals had gone from down 5-3 to up 10-5.
