BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team used an eight-goal run in the second half to pull away from Williams in a decisive 17-13 win at Whittier Field on Saturday. The Polar Bears, who are off to their best start since 2004, improve to 5-0 (3-0 NESCAC) on the season while the 15
th-ranked Ephs drop to 1-2 (1-1 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- The Ephs carried an 8-6 lead into halftime following a back-and-forth first half of play.
- Bowdoin scored the game's first two goals before a four-goal run by Williams reclaimed the lead.
- Consecutive goals by Patrick Fitzgerald and Donal Mullane evened the score at 5-5 midway through the second quarter, but Williams closed the half on a 3-1 spurt to carry the two-goal lead into the break.
- The Ephs actually extended their lead to 10-7 at the 10:22 mark of the third quarter before Bowdoin began its game-deciding run.
- Outstanding faceoff work by Ethan Barnard dominated the momentum during the run, which saw the Polar Bears score four times in the final 7:33 of the third quarter to retake the lead, 11-10 on Barnard's goal with 46 seconds left in the frame.
- The run continued in the fourth quarter as Will Byrne scored twice in a 4-0 surge over the opening 2:24, extending Bowdoin's lead to 15-10. Williams got no closer than three goals for the remainder of the game.

- Ethan Barnard won 21 of 34 faceoffs in the game, including 12-18 in the second half to spark the comeback, scoring two unassisted goals off faceoff wins.
- Donal Mullane led all players with a five-goal effort while Matt Ward scored twice and had three assists. Will Byrne also had a pair of goals and an assist.
- Robert Hobbs made 14 saves for Bowdoin, including several big stops during man-down situations as the Polar Bears held the Ephs to 2-6 with the extra player.
- Jason Lach and AJ Bravo had two caused turnovers apiece defensively.
- Pearson Glavin and Tim Saffold led Williams with three goal, two assist efforts in the loss.
