BRUNSWICK, Maine – The 11
th-seeded Colby College women's basketball team snapped a 19-game losing skid to sixth-seeded Bowdoin, defeating the Polar Bears in Morrell Gymnasium for the first time since January of 2010 in a 67-58 win in the First Round of the NESCAC Tournament Friday evening.
The Mules (12-9) advance to the quarterfinal round at Amherst on Sunday while the Polar Bears end their year with a record of 16-9.
Game Highlights
- Both teams struggled offensively in the early going, particularly the Polar Bears, who suited up without their two leading scorers on the year – Sela Kay and Sydney Jones.
- Colby heated up late in the frame thanks to seven points from Carly Christofori and took a 20-13 lead after the first quarter.
- Bowdoin rallied in the second quarter on the strength of Megan Tan's eight points, and a late jumper by Annie Boasberg cut the Mules' lead to 31-30 at intermission.
- A lay-in by Boasberg gave Bowdoin the lead in the opening minute of the second half and the teams traded the lead over the course of the third period, with a late lay-in giving Colby a slim 45-43 lead heading into the final frame.
- Bowdoin stayed within striking distance until midway through the fourth quarter as a 9-2 run, sparked by five points from Christofori, pushed the lead to eight points with under three minutes to play.

- Four Polar Bears reached double-digits in a gritty effort for Bowdoin, led by 13 with seven rebounds from Callie Godfrey.
- Annie Boasberg had 11 points and eight rebounds while Megan Tan added 11. Tori Beck also scored ten points for Bowdoin.
- Caroline Smith was the leading scorer for the Mules, totaling 24 points.
- Colby shot 43% from the field compared to 31% for Bowdoin. Colby out-rebounded Bowdoin 44-37 to make up for 19 turnovers on the night.
