Colby Snaps Men's Basketball Winning Streak in Non-Conference Setback

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team saw their three-game winning streak snapped in a non-conference loss to Colby on Wednesday night in Morrell Gymnasium. The loss drops the Polar Bears to 3-3 while the Mules improve to 7-0 on the season. Wednesday's game was the annual non-conference meeting between the teams with the NESCAC contest between the teams slated for January 21 in Waterville.
 
Game Highlights
  • Colby carried a 35-27 lead into intermission thanks to seven first-half three-pointers, including three from Lucas Green.
  • The Mules shot 45% from the field and assisted on 13 of their 14 made baskets while the Polar Bears connected on just 32% from the field.
  • Michael Simonds hit a running lay-in to open the second half scoring, cutting the lead to 35-29, before a five-point surge by the Mules, capped by a Will King lay-in, pushed the lead to double figures, 40-29, with 17:59 to go.
  • The Mules kept the Polar Bears at bay from there, as Bowdoin could get no closer than eight points for the remainder of the game.
  • Colby put the game out of reach with a 12-2 run with under ten minutes to play, pushing their lead to 18 points with 5:48 to go.

  • James McGowan had 16 points in the loss for Bowdoin while Lucas Green led Colby with 16 points.
  • Colby ended at 42% shooting while holding Bowdoin to 30% for the contest and the Mules got 37 bench points in the victory.
  • The Mules finished with 11 three-pointers in the contest compared to just four for the Polar Bears, who went 4-23 from long distance.
  • Afamdi Achufusi had nine points for Bowdoin while Noah Bessire added nine rebounds.

  • Bowdoin will head to western New York this coming weekend for the inaugural UAA/NESCAC Challenge hosted by the University of Rochester. The Polar Bears will play the host Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. Saturday before playing Carnegie Mellon on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
