WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team opened the 2022-23 season with a 5-3 road win over Williams to hand head coach
Ben Guite his first victory at the helm of the Polar Bears.
Bowdoin is 1-0-0 (1-0-0 NESCAC) to start the year. The Ephs have an inverse record of 0-1-0 (0-1-0 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin allowed its first goal of the season five minutes into the game. Ziv Deener-Chodirker won a faceoff on the right dot and kicked the puck back to Connor Tobin. Tobin took a shot and the rebound found Trevor O'Brien. O'Brien cleaned up the close-range puck and put it past Alex Kozic.
- The Polar Bears came out of the first intermission and quickly tallied an equalizer. A minute into the frame, Albert Washco collected the puck off the boards behind the Ephs net. Washco made a short pass up to Nate Clark on the near right post who quickly wristed a shot top shelf.
- The Ephs took the lead back at 5:40. Williams dumped to the back boards where Sean Clarke controlled the puck. Clarke quickly found Mac Carso in front of the net who put away a one-timer.
- Bowdoin came up with a pair of goals to take its first lead of the game with 1:29 and 41 seconds remaining in the middle frame. James Cerepak scored his first collegiate goal after streaking in on a rebound down the left side of the slot. Chris Brown gave the Polar Bears the lead connecting with a Bobby Pearl shot from the left point.
- Albert Washco added a third period goal to make it 4-2 in favor of Bowdoin. With Jimmy Duffy screening the goalie, Washco controlled the puck along the left boards in Williams territory and fired a shot from the low side of the circle.
- Williams pulled within one with five minutes remaining in regulation, but the Polar Bears iced the game with an empty-netter off the stick of Jack Studley with nine seconds remaining.

- Bowdoin held a 38-32 edge in shots on goal.
- Both teams posted matching 34 win numbers off the faceoff dot.
- Bowdoin was 0-for-1 on the power play. The Ephs were 1-for-4.
