Women's Hockey Skates Past UNE In Midweek Matchup

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team cruised to a 5-1 midweek win over the University of New England on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 6-5-0 on the season. The Nor'Easters are 3-8-0 in their return to the ice.
 
Game Highlights
  • Izzi Stoddard sparked the game's first goal, working hard to keep the puck in the zone and poking it off a defender's stick. Jane McCarter collected the skidding puck and took it directly in on goal. McCarter pulled backhand and froze both the defender and goalie to put Bowdoin up 1-0.
  • The Nor'Easters were patient on the game's first power play and capitalized with 2:07 remaining in the period. Maeve Crehan found Carolyn Curley low on the right post for a back door goal and equalizer.
  • Bowdoin struck quickly in the second, scoring a pair of goals in the first five minutes to go ahead 3-1. Gia Massari put the Polar Bears ahead with a breakout top shelf shot from the left side.
  • Stoddard added another two minutes later. capitalizing on a feed from the top, Stoddard took the puck in stride from right to left and wristed a quick shot past Delanie Corcoran.
  • Bowdoin continued its scoring output in the third period. Jackie Miller won the faceoff on the right side and the puck kicked to Angelina Joyce. Joyce wrapped around the UNE net and wristed a shot inside post at 5:09.
  • McCarter wrapped the game's scoring two minutes later, finishing off a D to D pass from Peyton Mulhern on the left point.
 
By the Numbers
  • Corcoran played into the third period and made 27 saves.
  • Kaleigh Laurendeau came in to finish the game and made five stops.
  • Sally Solotaroff-Webber collected her first win in net with 19 stops.
  • UNE went 1-for-4 on the power play.
  • Bowdoin was 0-for-1 on the power play.
