Men's Soccer Opens Season With 3-0 Win Over UNE

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's soccer team opened the 2021 season with a 3-0 win over visiting University of New England on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears begin the year 1-0 after not competing in 2020. The Nor'Easters slip to 1-2 on the young season.

Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin controlled the pace of play and scored 14:02 into the match. Dylan Reid lofted a long pass down the right wing for Drake Byrd to trap and face down a defender. Byrd took the ball two steps left and drove a left footed shot past a diving Triston O'Hagan.
  • O'Hagan made a diving save on another Byrd shot four minutes later at the right post.
  • UNE's keeper kept the visitors in the game with another point blank save off a bid from Minseo Bae off a cross by Charlie Ward.
  • Byrd found the back of the net less than two minutes into the second half. Ryan Houseman controlled the ball moving left to center just outside the box and slipped a pass straight through for Byrd in the middle. Byrd added a two-touch move before a low left foot put the ball away.
  • With just over a minute to play, Bae added a third and final goal for the Polar Bears. Julian Juantorena sent a deep pass into the box for Bae who worked a defender and crossed over to his right for a sliding shot on goal that bested O'Hagan.

  • The Polar Bears held a 12-0 edge in corner kicks.
