Men's Hockey Tops Tufts in Overtime

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin men's hockey team closed out the first semester with a 3-2 overtime victory to defeat Tufts on Saturday evening.
 
The Polar Bears (1-4-1, 1-2-0 NESCAC) earned their first win of the season. The Jumbos fall to 1-7-1 (1-4-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears fell behind 2-0 in the first period. Cam Newton and Angus Scott scored goals at 9:31 and 13:41 to give the hosts an early lead. Scott's goal was an unassisted power play tally.
  • Bowdoin got on the board with less than two minutes to play in the first. Will Forrest finished off a feed from Any Stoneman and Jack Gilligan.
  • Gilligan scored the equalizer midway through the third to send the teams to overtime. Gilligan's shot came as he set up on the blue line and slipped a shot through traffic. Luke Wheeler and Graham Rutledge recorded assists on the play.
  • The Jumbos killed off an early Bowdoin power play in overtime, but the Polar Bears continued pressure in the offensive zone. Patrick Ault entered the zone and slid the puck towards net, where Chris Brown redirected it into the net for the game-winning goal.
 
By the Numbers
  • Tufts went 1-for-4 on the power play.
  • Bowdoin was 1-for-3 on the power play.
  • Alex Kozic had his first win of the year with 23 saves.
  • Ryan Welch stopped 37 shots for the Jumbos.

  • The Polar Bears are off until January. Bowdoin's game scheduled against USM has been moved forward one day and will be played on January 2 at 4:00 p.m.
