BOSTON, Mass. –
Julia Surgenor put home a hat trick as the Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team erupted for eight goals in an 8-1 win over Stevenson in the opening day of the Codfish Bowl at UMass Boston on Saturday.
The Polar Bears (1-2-0), who picked up their first win of the campaign, advance to tomorrow's final against UMass Boston at 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Stevenson falls to 2-5-0 with the defeat.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin got the scoring underway early, as Kiley Briand used a back-pass across the goal mouth to Gia Massari on the back post for a one-timer goal just 2:47 into the contest.
- The Polar Bears doubled their lead at the 6:50 mark as Julia Surgenor buried a feed from Elly Whitmore from between the circles to give Bowdoin a 2-0 edge after one period.
- Surgenor went top-shelf from the right faceoff circle at 5:29 of the second frame and Briand got credit for Bowdoin's fourth goal after her pass deflected off the goaltender's back and into the goal at 14:46.
- Bowdoin put the contest out of reach with four goals in the final frame. Surgenor finished off her hat trick at the 14:24 mark while Massari, Ally Thanassi and Angelina Joyce also put home goals to seal the win.
