BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College head men's basketball coach
Alex Lloyd collected his first win as a collegiate head coach as the Polar Bears sprinted to a season-opening 89-68 victory over Thomas on Saturday in Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (1-0) connected on 15 three-pointers in the win, handing the Terriers (0-2) their second straight loss to open the campaign.

- Both teams struggled from the field in the early going, until a late Bowdoin surge gave the hosts some cushion at halftime.
- Manav Randhawa sparked the Polar Bears off the bench, drilling three straight three-pointers to push Bowdoin's lead into double-digits with under five minutes to play in the first.
- Michael Simonds and James McGowan pitched in ten points each in the opening stanza as Bowdoin carried a 46-28 lead into the break.
- Bowdoin continued to pour it on in the second half, hitting nine more three-pointers and pushing the lead to as many as 32 points.

- A trio of Bowdoin players had breakout contests in their first career games for the Polar Bears, led by James McGowan, who scored a team-high 21 points with seven boards and five assists.
- Newcomers Michael Simonds (16) and Afandi Achufusi (13) also saw double figures along with Manav Randhawa (15).
- Xander Werkman had a team-best nine boards as Bowdoin owned a 48-38 edge on the glass.
- Bowdoin shot 44% for the contest, including 15-38 (39%) from long distance, compared to just 33% from the field from Thomas and 25% from three-point range.
