Volleyball Strings Together Perfect NESCAC Weekend with Win Over Amherst

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin volleyball team secured a key three set NESCAC victory over visiting Amherst on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 14-4 (7-1 NESCAC), while the Mammoths drop to 11-3 (5-3 NESCAC).
 
Match Highlights
  • The straight set victory was tight the whole match, with Bowdoin coming away with the 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 win.
  • The Mammoths went on a three point run to go ahead 22-21 late in the first set, but the Polar Bears capitalized on Amherst errors to take the first.
  • Amherst jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead to open the second, but the Polar Bears clawed their way even off a pair of service runs Allyson Hawkins and Cori Gray. Neither team led by more than two points until Adrienne Miller and Jaida Hodge-Adams secured the final kills for Bowdoin.
  • The third set opened with the teams evenly matched again, until Maya White took the Polar Bears on a 7-0 run to open up a 19-12 lead. Amherst was never within striking distance through the remainder of the set as the match ended with a dig by Hodge-Adams that returned to the Amherst side of the net and found the floor.
 
By the Numbers
  • Hodge-Adams led the way for Bowdoin with 11 kills, followed closely by Cori Gray with 10 and an ace.
  • Ella Haugen had 28 assists and 15 digs. Maya White paced the Polar Bears with 19 digs.
  • Sophia Launsbach had a team leading 11 kills for Amherst.
