BRUNSWICK, Maine – After a record-setting performance against Wesleyan on Saturday, Bowdoin sophomore quarterback
Andrew Boel (Wyckoff, N.J.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
In his first career start, Boel tied the school record for passing touchdowns (5), threw for the second-most yards in school history (410), and led the Polar Bears to their most points (35) since 2015 in a last-minute setback to the Cardinals. Boel went 21-for-30 passing and drove Bowdoin 50 yards in the final 59 seconds to the Wesleyan 20 with just four seconds left, as the Polar Bears missed a potential game-tying field goal at the buzzer.
Boel threw three touchdown passes of over 50 yards and is the first NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week for Bowdoin since Nate Richam-Odoi in 2018. The 35 points for the Polar Bears were the most scored by the team since the Colby game in 2015 and just the second time the traditionally stingy Wesleyan defense has allowed that many points since 2016.
Bowdoin will return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they host Amherst at Whittier Field.
