Volleyball Rallies to Tip Williams in Five-Set Thriller

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin College volleyball team rallied to earn a crucial 3-2 (25-23, 15-25, 16-25, 26-24, 15-8) NESCAC road win at Williams Friday night. The Polar Bears improve to 6-3 (3-1 NESCAC) dealing the Ephs (8-1, 2-1 NESCAC) their first loss of the season.

Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin built a 19-15 lead in the opening set, only to see Williams roar back on a 7-0 run to take a 22-19 edge. The Polar Bears rebounded to finish the set on a 6-1 run, getting consecutive blocks to finish off the 25-23 win.
  • Williams dominated the second set 25-15 and cruised in the third 25-16 to regain the momentum in the match heading into the fourth set.
  • The closest set of the match saw the teams trade big runs, and Williams stake a 24-23 lead and service for match point. But Lauren Lange put home a kill to knot the score at 24 apiece and then blocked a Williams attack on the next point. A Williams attack error clinched the set for Bowdoin, 26-24.
  • With momentum back on their side, the Polar Bears dominated the deciding fifth, using a 7-1 run to take a commanding 12-5 lead on a Corinne Lamond kill. Points later, Ella Haugen's service ace finished off the impressive comeback win, 15-8, for Bowdoin.
