Jumbos Rally in Second Half to Tip Men's Basketball

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University men's basketball team rallied in the second half to pick up an 85-73 win on Friday evening.

The 22nd-ranked Jumbos improve to 15-4 (5-0 NESCAC) with the win while the Polar Bears fall to 6-12 (1-5 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • The game was a back-and-forth affair that featured eight lead changes in the first half alone.
  • An 11-2 run midway through the period gave Tufts a 33-25 lead, but Bowdoin replied with a three-pointer from David Reynolds and five straight points from Sam Grad to tie the score at 33 apiece.
  • Tufts clung to a 37-36 lead at halftime but Bowdoin came out of the gate quickly in the second half, taking the lead and extending it to five points on a three-pointer from Manav Randhawa, 48-43, with 13:55 to go.
  • The Jumbos replied with a 13-0 run, regaining the advantage and taking an eight-point lead, 56-48, following a trifecta from Dylan Thoerner.
  • Bowdoin clawed back into the contest, coming within two points following a David Reynolds three-pointer and free throws from Taiga Kagitomi, 63-61, with 5:30 to go.
  • Tufts kept the Polar Bears at bay, however, and slowly pulled away late to clinch the victory.

By The Numbers

  • A season-high six players saw double digits for Bowdoin, paced by 15 from Sam Grad. David Reynolds had 13 points and 12 boards for the Polar Bears.
  • Bowdoin also got 13 from Taiga Kagitomi, 12 from Manav Randhawa and 10 each from Stephen Ferraro and Xander Werkman.
  • Tufts was led by a career-high 35 points from Eric Savage, who had 22 in the second half for the Jumbos.
  • Tufts owned a 43-36 edge in rebounding and shot 45% for the game, compared to 41% for Bowdoin.
