BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's hockey team dropped Saturday's NESCAC matchup against Williams by a 5-1 margin.
The Polar Bears drop to 9-7-1 (5-5-1 NESCAC), while the Ephs leave Maine with two wins and a 11-4-1 (8-2-0 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Williams scored on its first shot of the game. Jack Forrest won the faceoff in the right circle and kicked the puck right to Will Somers. Somers cycled the puck up to Jack McCool on the same side point for a shot on net. Forrest tipped the shot as it came past, putting the puck past Alex Zafonte.
- The Ephs doubled their lead with 5:52 remaining in the opening period. Julian Detmer picked the puck off the back boards and fed a pass from the right corner to Bobby Beniers in front of the net for quick goal.
- Just 3:15 into the second, Detmer made it 3-0 in favor of Williams. Beniers intercepted the puck and skated into Bowdoin territory in a two-on-one with Detmer to his left. Beniers drew the goalie and dished left for a Detmer one-timer that deflected off Zafonte's pad and into the net.
- Forrest extended Williams lead further midway through the period. Max Fuld found Forrest who took a close range shot on pads. Forrest collected his own rebound and went top shelf.
- The Ephs continued to produce, capping the period with a last minute goal as Forrest stripped a Bowdoin defender of the puck and turned on the left post for a quick tally.
- Bowdoin avoided the shutout with 42 seconds remaining in the game. Kyle St. Denis gloved the puck and tossed it to his left for Bobby Pearl. Pearl made a long cross ice pass to Ethan Kimball in front of the Bowdoin bench. Kimball skated in and wristed a shot from the right circle.
By the Numbers
- Evan Ruschil made 36 saves for the win in net.
- Zafonte made 12 stops in two periods of action. St. Denis made 12 saves in the third.
- Bowdoin went 0-for-3 on the power play.
- Williams went 0-for-1 on the power play.
