Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Three-Goal Third Not Enough in Men's Hockey Loss to Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin men's hockey team mounted a three-goal third period rally but was unable to secure the win in a 4-3 loss at Wesleyan on Sunday.

The Polar Bears head home with an 8-6-1 (4-4-1 NESCAC) record. The Cardinals are 9-5-0 (5-3-0 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • The Cardinals struck first just 1:34 into the game. Walker Harris skated the puck from center ice and fired a shot from the right dot beyond Alex Zafonte's reach.
  • Wesleyan went ahead 2-0 4:28 into the second. Zafonte turned away the initial shot from Tyler Wyatt, but Harris cleaned up the rebound for his second of the game.
  • Midway through the frame Wesleyan tallied its third on a breakaway from Cam Peritz.
  • Bowdoin evened the game with three power play goals in the third. Cam Berube put the Polar Bears on the board with a one-timer from the high slot.
  • Just 1:51 later, Bradley Ingersoll sent a pass towards the right pipe, where Albert Washco deflected it to Thomas Dunleavy for another Polar Bear tally.
  • Joe Alexander found the equalizer at 9:41 as his shot deflected off a Wesleyan defender and over the goalie's head.
  • Wesleyan scored the game-winner at 14:31 off a one-timer by Spencer Fox.

By the Numbers

  • Tim Sestak made 29 saves for Wesleyan.
  • Zafonte made 21 stops for Bowdoin.
  • Washco assisted on all three Bowdoin goals.
