BRUNSWICK, Maine – Grace Devanny scored with three minutes remaining in regulation to lift the Wesleyan women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Bowdoin on Saturday at Pickard Field.
The Cardinals improve to 4-1-0 (2-1-0 NESCAC) after notching the late game-winner against the Polar Bears (0-4-1, 0-3-1 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Devaney gave Wesleyan its first lead of the day at 19:24 after carrying down the right side and beating a defender. Devaney put the ball in the low left corner beyond the reach of Penny Rocchio.
- A minute later the Cardinals looked for another but were denied by a diving save by Rocchio,
- In the 31st minute, Bowdoin tied the game. Sophia Lemmer sent a cross towards Jamie Lau who one-timed the ball over Wesleyan's goalie.
- With 15 minutes remaining in the second half, Wesleyan took a corner kick on the left side. The ball curled towards net only to be deflected away by Lizzie Sands on the near post.
- Bowdoin looked for a game-winner with under six to play. Rachael Peacock faked out a defender at the top of the box and pulled the ball left, launching a left footed shot on net. The ball collided with the crossbar and back into play before being cleared over the endline.
- Devanny's beat a defender down the left side and capitalized on a one-on-one with Rocchio to net the game-winner.

- Wesleyan held an 11-7 edge in shots. Both teams had seven corner kicks.
- Sarah Hammond made three saves for the Cardinals.
- Rocchio made four stops.
