BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team closed out its home schedule with a scoreless overtime tie against Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears conclude play in Watson Arena with a 3-17-2 (2-11-1 NESCAC) record. The Camels head back to Connecticut at 10-8-3 (6-5-3 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- The most promising look for either team came in the final minute of the first period with Bowdoin on the power play. Nell Fusco fired a slapshot from center that rang off the left post.
- With five minutes remaining in the second, Elena Gualtieri grabbed the puck off the boards in front of the penalty box and skated freely into Bowdoin's zone. The senior wristed a shot just over the crossbar.
- Bailey Mertz made a pair of back-to-back saves in the final ten seconds, turning away quick shots from Izzi Stoddard and Marissa Fichter.
- In the third, Kyle Wilkes came bearing down on Kerri St. Denis with a 50/50 puck sitting just outside the crease. St. Denis sprawled to poke the puck away before Wilkes could get it.
- St. Denis made another pair of key saves on consecutive shots from Wilkes and Gualtieri in the final two minutes.
- The Camels earned a faceoff on the right side with 14 seconds remaining in the game. A win in the circle kicked the puck back to Paige Michel for a quick one-timer through traffic towards St. Denis. The senior denied the bid and sent the teams into overtime.
- In overtime, both teams earned promising looks. Katie Leininger put a shot on net which Bailey Mertz turned away with a stick save. Erin Dillon sent a shot through traffic from the left point that was turned aside by St. Denis.
By the Numbers
- Mertz collected her fourth shutout of the season with 29 saves.
- St. Denis earned her first clean slate of the year with 25 stops.
- Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
