Women's Hoops Blows Past Nor'easters in Home Opener

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team rolled past the University of New England on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium, 72-46.

The fourth-ranked Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 5-0 this season while the Nor'easters fall to 5-2 on the year.

Game Highlights

  • After both teams scuffled through the first three minutes, Bowdoin caught fire and went on a 15-2 run, sparked by a Sela Kay three-pointer, to take a 19-6 lead.
  • Bowdoin led 24-9 after one quarter and held UNE without a field goal for over five minutes into the second period.
  • The Nor'easters settled, however, and outscored Bowdoin 13-10 in the frame to trim the Polar Bear lead to 34-22 at the break thanks to six second-quarter points from Abby Cavallaro.
  • Bowdoin put the contest out of reach in the third quarter as Samantha Roy took over the contest, scoring six points, and making two steals in an 11-2 Polar Bear surge that pushed the lead past twenty.
  • The Polar Bears pushed the lead to as many as 32 points in the fourth quarter.

  • Four Bowdoin players saw double-digits, led by Samantha Roy's 14 points with four steals, three assists and a block.
  • Maddie Hasson and Moira Train had 12 points and six rebounds apiece while Sela Kay added 11 for the Polar Bears.
  • Abby Cavarallo had 17 points to lead UNE.
  • Bowdoin shot 43% for the game but forced 23 UNE turnovers while committing just ten. The Polar Bear defense held the Nor'easters to just 30% shooting for the contest.
