BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sophia Lemmer scored four minutes into overtime as the Bowdoin women's soccer team earned the upset 2-1 overtime win over Williams on Saturday.
The Polar Bears (7-6-1, 3-5-1 NESCAC) forced overtime with a successful penalty kick in the final two minutes of regulations. The win was the program's first victory over the Ephs (8-4-1, 6-3-0 NESCAC) since 2005.
Game Highlights
- With five minutes remaining in the first half, Mikayla Kappes broke through the Bowdoin defense and earned a one-on-goal. Penny Rocchio came out to the left corner of the box and made a diving saves to deflect Kappes shot wide.
- The Ephs controlled the second half, outshooting the Polar Bears 12-5, and finally broke through in the 82nd minute. After making a pair of quick saves on Williams bids, Rocchio was unable to deny a third attempt as Aspen Pierson gave the visitors a late 1-0 lead.
- Aine Lawlor sent the game into overtime with a successful penalty kick conversation with 1:37 remaining in regulation.
- Alison Lu nearly gave Williams the win two minutes into overtime, but the shot collided with the crossbar.
- Bowdoin answered two minutes later. Rachael Peacock took a corner kick from the right side and sent the ball into the box. Lemmer settled the ball and made a move around a defender before sneaking a shot inside the right post.

- Williams owned a 17-9 edge in shots and 5-2 corner kick advantage.
