Field Hockey Climbs Past Connecticut College 5-0 in Saturday Win

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Bowdoin field hockey team cruised to a 5-0 NESCAC win at Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (10-1, 6-1 NESCAC) got a pair of goals from Kara Finnerty, with three other individuals chipping in. The Camels slip to 2-8 (0-7 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Peyton Jackson put Bowdoin on the board just 1:19 into action. Abby Bashaw spun at the top of the circle and made a reverse stick pass to Jackson on the left. Jackson blasted a drive into the far corner for a 1-0 lead.
  • Bowdoin doubled its lead in the 13th minute as Finnerty drove a shot on pads from the top of the circle, with the ball sneaking through a scrum to the right post. Emma Stevens pushed the ball over the goal line to extend Bowdoin's lead.
  • Finnerty had a pair of back-to-back goals midway through the second quarter. The senior's second came off a hard drive from the top left side of the circle inside the far post.
  • Elizabeth Growney had her first of the game eight minutes into the third quarter, cleaning up a ball on the left post late on a penalty corner.

By the Numbers

  • Bowdoin held a 19-2 shot advantage and 6-1 edge in corners.
  • Maddie Ferrucci got the start for Bowdoin, before Eva Verzani came in for the final eight minutes to make a pair of saves.
  • Jackie Mountford made three saves in the first quarter. Andi McGraw played the remainder of the game and made seven saves.
