BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team returned to the win column with a 6-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (6-1) tallied three goals in each half to down the visiting Huskies (4-3).

Game Highlights

• Elizabeth Bennewitz put the Polar Bears on the board 2:44 into the game with a drive from the top of the circle off a corner insert from Elle Brine.
• Just 14 seconds later, Emma Stevens finished off a feed from Kara Finnerty at the left post.
• Finnerty recorded an unassisted goal midway through the half, putting away a rebound off the pads after a Bennewitz shot.
• The Huskies earned a series of corners in the final five minutes of the half, pinning the Polar Bears in their own circle.
• Just over a minute into the second half, Stevens swept a moving ball from Finnerty for her second of the day.
• The junior capped her hat-trick ten minutes later. Manveer Sandhu took a drag flick from the top of the circle, with Stevens deflecting the ball past the goalie.
• Julia Gottreich finished the day's scoring in the final 20 seconds of play, putting a ball in the air over the goalie.

By the Numbers

• Bowdoin held a 36-3 edge in shots and 13-4 corner advantage.
• McKenzie Cormier made eight saves in the first half. Lindsay Pych made 11 stops in the second.
• Eva Verzani collected her first shutout with a pair of stops.
